This project is a testament to the power of community collaboration, bringing together multiple entities to enhance the recreational facilities available to residents. The new shelter will provide a much-needed space for families and community members to gather, enjoy picnics, and participate in various outdoor activities. The project is spearheaded by Quality Play for All, with significant contributions from the following partners: • City of Junction City: Joshua Gray, City Parks Superintendent, and the City Public Works team have been instrumental in providing logistical support and ensuring the project meets all city regulations. • Hutton: Donating professional construction services and oversight to ensure the project is completed efficiently and safely. • KSU Student Chapter of the KS AGC: Students from Kansas State University’s chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America have volunteered their time and skills to assist with the construction. • USD 475 Career and Technical Education Students: Local high school students, guided by Career and Technical Education staff members, Kale Katt and Aaron Yoder, will be gaining hands-on experience by participating in the building process. • Kaw Valley Engineering: Providing essential engineering expertise to ensure the shelter is built to the highest standards. • Foley Equipment: Supplying necessary equipment and machinery to facilitate the construction. “We are thrilled to see this project come to life,” said Angie Greenwood. “It’s a wonderful example of what can be achieved when different sectors of the community come together with a common goal. This shelter will be a valuable addition to our park and a great asset for the residents of Junction City.” 5th Street Park has been a focal point for community activities and improvements. Quality Play for All has previously funded several projects in the park, including the installation of new playground equipment and the recent launch of the Fitness Court at 5th Street Playground, which have significantly enhanced the park’s appeal and usability for families and children1. The construction of the shelter is expected to be completed by November 9th, 2024, with the majority of the work scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the opening, with details to be announced soon.
